Part 3- Materials

Box cushions are great, because they don't require too many raw materials, and they can all be picked up easily from your local craft shop.

Materials you'll need

  • Thread in a complementary colour to your fabric
  • Foam – I use 3 in. pink foam
  • Dacron or polyester – I use a 6 oz weight
  • Piping cord – I use No. 8 rope piping cord
  • Continuous zip in a complementary colour
  • Fabric of your choice (if you want to be able to clean your removable covers, ensure the fabric you choose is washable)
  • Slider for the continuous zip
  • Fire retardant layer if your chosen fabric isn't fire retardant

Different foam options

It's worth researching the different types of foam available to see what will work best for your project. Look on YouTube to find videos of people discussing the characteristics of different foams: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jbfhtRP3gIQ
