Part 4- Before We Start- V-cuts
Cutting your fabric to manipulate it into tricky corners can be the most nerve-racking part of upholstery – to help reduce the chances of mistakes, I'll often use 'V cuts'.
V Cuts
You'll use this technique to manipulate the fabric around the frame of the chair. Ending on a V cut also means the fabric is less likely to tear when you pull it.
- Start by making a straight cut with fabric scissors and stop a few centimetres shy of where you need to finish.
- Use the end of this cut as the point in your V, and make two slightly diagonal cuts that extend up closer to the finishing point and form a V shape.
- You can continue to edge closer to the finishing point as required.
- The width of the V should be dictated by the frame or batten you are trying to get around.
The Box Cushion
As part of this project, you will also need to make a box cushion, which we have already covered. Refer back to Project 2 for guidance and instructions.
