Part 16- Adding Dacron to the Inside Back

Once the seat platform is done, it's time to move onto the inside back.

  1. To avoid any harsh edges, I am going to add a layer of polyester on top of the foam I have already attached, as well as to the sides of the frame. If your fabric isn't fire retardant, you will need to add a fire retardant layer before the polyester.
  1. If your polyester is not wide enough to cover the width of your chair, you will need to glue some pieces together in the same way that we did for the headboard.
  1. Begin by cutting the polyester layer for the back section to size using fabric scissors. It should be long enough and wide enough to cover the sides and top of the wooden frame. You want your polyester to sit flush with the foam.
  1. Start with the bottom of the inside back and spray the edge of the wooden frame with glue and the corresponding area of polyester. Press firmly to secure.
  1. Work in sections to cover the rest of the inside back, applying a layer of spray glue to the foam and pressing the polyester firmly into place. At this point it's worth remembering to be cautious about getting any glue on the finished seat platform.
  1. Once all the polyester is stuck down, trim off any excess so it sits flush with the back of the wooden frame to avoid any extra bulk.
  1. Repeat this process along both side edges and the top of the wood frame.
