Part 15 - Wrapping the Foam

To complete the inner padding, you'll need to wrap the foam in a polyester layer – and possibly a fire retardant layer too, depending on your cushion cover fabric.

  1. If your cushion cover fabric is fire retardant, you'll only need to wrap the foam in polyester. If it's not, you'll also need to wrap it in a fire retardant layer. The process is the same for both.
  1. Cut your polyester and/or fire retardant layer so that there is enough to cover the top, bottom and sides of the cushion – it doesn't need to be exact as you can trim away any excess once stuck on.
  1. Place your foam into the centre of your polyester or fire retardant layer, making sure there are no creases.
  1. Fold up the foam so you can apply an even layer of spray glue to the underneath, then fold back down onto the fabric and press to secure.
  1. Next, apply an even layer of spray glue to the front edge of the foam and the top section. Pull the fabric up and over, keeping it taut, and smooth it over to secure.
  1. Apply spray glue to one side of the foam, and press the top of the fabric over the edge and down. Repeat on the other side.
  1. Leave the back free of both fire retardant layer and polyester, as this will make it easier to close the zip.
  1. Now you can cut away any excess so the fabric is in line with the foam.
  1. Repeat with your polyester fabric if necessary.
