Part 13 - Sewing the Corners
The final bit of sewing to complete your box cushion cover is to close up the corners.
- Take your first corner and begin by measuring out where your existing sewing line ends to the outer edge of the corner. Mark this measurement onto the corresponding border with tailor's chalk.
- Repeat this on the border that sits on the other side of the corner.
- Line up the chalked marks on both borders and secure in place with a pin.
- Making sure you don't catch any of the top or bottom pieces of your cushion, sew your borders together at this chalked point using a straight stitch.
- Trim away the excess, leaving a 1 cm seam allowance from your sewn line.
- Repeat this for each corner, including the ones that include the zip – you can trim away the excess zip in the same way.
- Now you can close the corners. Taking the first corner, press open the border seam you have just created, then follow the existing sewing line that edges against your piping to sew the corner and border together, pivoting 90 degrees at the corner to sew the other side.
- You'll need to repeat this process for all eight corners – top and bottom. Your box cushion cover is now complete!
